Compass shows in Navigation instead of SatNav

After disconnecting the Shark-fin antenna, I find that the SatNav no longer works. Instead the Compass shows (and it works) inviting me to purchase the SatNav add on. The car came with maps and SD card and worked fine until the radio antenna was disconnected. It is now re-connected.

According to some forums (and Mazda in UK) - the GPS antenna is in the dashboard. But this is a big co-incidence.

SD card appears to be readable/OK in the Mazda toolbox (i have no back-up) though.

Any suggestions, please.

The shark fin is only AM/FM radio antenna. Did you disconnect it at the infotainment CMU end? If so, and the SD Card is installed correctly, the chances are that you've probably also inadvertently dislodged the GPS connector; unplug and plug back in all connectors on the back of the CMU and try again.

I had something similar to this recently where navigation was not working. Turned off the ignition then ejected and replaced the SD card. Ignition on, then navigation loaded. I assume that this did not work for you?

Thanks for the two replies.

I disconnected the antenna at the connector about 30cm away from the shark fin after gaining access under the headlining.
I have not been anywhere near the CMU. The Compass that DOES work shows my position, direction and altitude, so I am assuming that the actual GPS unit is receiving a signal from its antenna and is working OK.

I also tried to reset the Infotainment system, as well as ejecting and re-inserting the SD card to no avail.

Weird then. I know the compass appears when the SD map card isn't inserted. I don't know what you've done.
You may have to buy a new, unused, map card from somewhere like satnavishop (approx. £40) and try that.

I wouldn't recommend Satnavishop. I got a card that purported to be up to date but was at least 12 months out of date. The file on the card also seemed a bit dodgy.

Unless you buy a genuine card from Mazda, which costs an arm & a leg, or use your own backup made via Toolbox, the cards from other suppliers are all likely to be ‘a bit dodgy’ & probably won’t update. 🫤

You could try Navi-World.com for a Sat Nav card with 3 year free updates. NB: I've not got any experience or link with them.

Thanks for the further info. I have managed to download a map update, from the original 3 year limit that had not been done. It is for June 2024 but with 2019 Map Version it said.

The Sat Nav still shows as 'Compass' however. I will have to call at a dealer soon and see how the land lies.
