Is there any advantage in buying the genuine mazda carplay module ( priced at about £250) over the amazon variants ( priced at £70-£80).

No, even cheaper on AliExpress if you are happy buying from China. I paid £80 ish about 3 years ago and it was the genuine kit and works well.
