Hi

My 2017 car has been making a thumping/thud noise from the front passenger side for about 3 years. My local garage can not find the problem, although they agree that the noise is there.

I will have to keep the car for the next 3 years at least (hoping to get a CX-30 Auto in the future) and want to get this problem sorted once and for all.

I’m not a mechanic but have some basic knowledge of cars and to me it sounds like I may need a new shock absorber. My question, is it best to get both the front shocks done or just replace the faulty one (If I’m correct). Any idea how much this would cost?

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

It's wise to get suspension parts such as springs and shock absorbers in pairs.
Have the drop links been checked? Mine had a clunking noise on uneven road surfaces and replacing the drop links fixed it. Kwik Fit did them for me.

Thanks for the reply jtonline. As menetioned in my post my local garage couldn't find any problems, I would have thought if it was the drop links, this would have been picked up on the MOT?

I was thinking of getting a mobile mechanic to inspect and hopefully they might be able to find the problem.

I appreciate your reply.
