The passenger side wing mirror on my 67reg car is playing up.
Instead of folding in fully automatically when the doors lock, it folds in about a third of the way and then stops. I can then fold it in fully by manually pushing it, at first with a hardish push until it meets some resistance, then it clicks loudly after it has overcome that resistance and then light finger pressure will fully fold it.
On unlocking the doors, it will unfold automatically about an inch, after which I can again open it manually, by pushing it through the resistance click after which finger pressure will fully unfold it.
The drivers side is operating normally, and the actual mirror glass adjustment has not been affected. It is just the body of the wing mirror.
I cant see any way of getting into the mirror body from the outside, unless there is some tool that will flick the mirror body open to access whatever is inside.
Turning off the auto function switch in the drivers door panel and using the dedicated fold switch makes no difference, the mirror seems to stick until it has been manually pushed through the resistance.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks for any help recieved.
WING MIRROR PROBLEM.
Might be worth initially trying to get hold of something like this and giving a good spray in the gap round the base of the moveable part of the mirror body. Worked for me when I found one of my mirrors making a lot of noise when folding / unfolding. I've also used in the gap round the actual mirror glass. If it doesn't cure your problem then it suggests there could be something wrong / broken on the plastic gears that I think move the mirror body.

Twice a year, I tend to give both wing mirrors one heck of a big spray of wd40 with them open, then same again closed. It’ll drip-yes-but soon be wiped up and off.
Even the other morning after a hard frost, both opened easily with no resistance at all . Ice doesn’t like oil.

Thanks for the replies.
I called the local Mazda dealership this morning hoping this that would be a quick and easy problem to solve. Folding wing mirrors are a must for me.
First they need to see the car for a 30 minute "diagnostic inspection" at, .......... wait for it ............ £120 + VAT.
Luckily I have an extended warranty with Mazda, I called the warranty people and they told me that there is a known problem with wing mirror motors on the CX3, CX5 and Mazda 2 and that I will be covered for both the inspection and any repair or replacement
So it is booked in for the inspection in 2 weeks, the earliest date. To order a new mirror or mirror internals will take a couple of days.
In the meantime I will spray with some WD40 silicone and hope for a temporary fix.
How different to Honda when a brake light refused to turn off on a CRV, no appointment, straight into the the nearest dealership, within 5 minutes a tech had diagnosed the cause, ran to stores, and immediately fitted a tiny plastic clip/switch under the brake pedal assembly that had come adrift. Cost ... £4.50, no charge for labour! In and out in 10 minutes.

£120+ to look at a couple of wing mirrors ?…for me that’s a company that doesn’t want to be bothered with customers …..not acceptable, ask for a breakdown on how they reached that figure
Meanwhile do hope the WD40 makes a bit of difference!

When I take the car in I will certainly raise the topic of such a high cost to merely press the button on the door to confirm that the mirror is broken, especially as there is a known issue with mirrors on this model. Luckily I have an extended warranty and all costs will be covered.
The dealership is typical of many UK franchise dealers, friendly enough, tick all the boxes etc., but they dont go above and beyond to make the customer feeling any way valued. They just dont seem motivated in any way. Considering the price of cars these days and the fall off in sales you would think they would be trying much harder.
Although I like the CX3, its the right size, it drives lovely and I like the interior, but I wont be buying another Mazda when I sell this one next year, it will be Japanese, either a Lexus UX or a Subaru XV, but definitely not a German or French car.

This is standard practice at almost all main dealers and has been for the last decade for out of warranty repairs.
It used to be barely acceptable when the labour rate was £50-60/per hour but thanks to the recent bout of inflation this figure has now doubled.
Last week I paid £30 for a puncture repair at a local garage to fix a tyre damaged by a thorn! 10 years ago I used to pay £8 on the car or £6 off the car for a puncture repair.

Wing mirror not retracting whirring noise a common fault on Cx3 . Went to Mazda dealer didn't want to know , estimate 170 euros. My Cx3 is 2017 with full service history at Mazda. Second Mazda dealer replaced Free of Charge. I love this Cx3 but it has two common faults.
Wing Mirror not retracting and rear seat belt not retracting. Had seat belt replaced free of charge last year Both well known faults ,both should have had recall.

The wing mirror motor was replaced yesterday at the Mazda dealership. It took about an hour and the cost, including the £120 + VAT was covered by my extended guarantee.
One of the three "clips" that hold the mirror glass in place and are part of the glass adjustment mechanism, (as opposed to the other motor that just folds the whole assembly when locking the car) snapped off during the fitting procedure and they didnt have a replacement in stock, so although the mirror now folds, the glass cannot be adjusted, so a clip will be ordered and I will have to go back after Xmas for it to be fitted.
I really do long for the good old days when anything could be fixed in 10 minutes with the help of only a hammer, a piece of string and an oily rag.
