Mazda dealer says it was just a bypass and seems the DPF is still there. They think the reason it was mapped was to get rid of an injector issue that they’ve found codes for as well.
Hopefully running the PCM update will override it all and the car will be ok. Won’t know more until tomorrow.

Update…..
Paperwork from Mazda dealer says ‘Tech confirmed EGR undone - injector readings far out of spec and unable to relearn due to remap. Carried out an update of the PCM and injection learn. Road tested and confirmed soot from exhaust, possible damage to DPF but recommend going for a good run to clear’

Picked it up, took it for a 40 mile run with a bottle of DPF cleaner and a full tank of Shell VPower diesel.
One odd thing I noticed when I started driving was that the aircon icon on the fuel management screen had the halo straight away. The engine icon halo came on when the engine had warmed up but battery one didn’t appear until about 35 miles so the IStop was ‘not ready’
Exhaust was a bit smokey but I thought it was getting better towards the end of the run. The battery icon halo appeared and IStop kicked into ready mode so I was feeling hopeful that I could book an MOT test.
Then the engine check light came on so it was game over and straight back to the Mazda dealership.

Your trials with this car sound a bit like my life in general. 2 steps forward and then 1 step back! Good luck again!

It's illegal to sell a car with the DPF removed or mapped out. If you bought from a garage it's up to them to put it back the way it should be. If bought privately you'd have to go to court.

I bought it from a garage so according to the legal advice I’ve had, they have one opportunity to fix it at their cost, in a reasonable time frame and at no inconvenience to me. If it’s found to be faulty after that or fails again then they have to refund me.

Emailed dealer on Friday 27th December outlining the issues, timeline and results of all tests & diagnostics along with the consumer rights points that my legal advice say apply. No response back from them yet so car is now parked off road on a SORN

Update, had a bit of back & forth with the dealer I bought the car from. They have all the diagnostics information and are picking the car up next week. It’s going into their workshop to have the engine stripped and examined to find any faults and issues. Pending what they find we will then discuss options.

Car went back at end of January. Took them 4 weeks to look at it but the outcome was grim.
DPF totally blocked, EGR valve and manifold full of carbon. They suspect it was caused by the injectors.
Cost of repair discussed, initially they tried to make me pay for the DPF. Told them no chance and reminded them that legally they had to replace, repair or give me money back.
They opted for the last option so I no longer own the car.
Goodness knows where it will end up.

I suspect that the car will be put through the auctions and somebody else will "inherit" the problem. It is possible that someone with the necessary skills could sort it out and put it back on the road.

Good to hear that you got your money back but that doesn't compensate you for 3 months of grief!

I would name and shame the dealer and put the registration on here to make people aware.

So a couple of days after I agreed to take the money offered the car has miraculously passed an MOT and is advertised on the dealer’s website.
There’s no way the MOT is legit as they won’t have replaced the DPF since it was on 6 weeks back order so it’s probably been remapped again and they’re hoping some poor sucker will buy it.

Reg is NL17CXA, dealer is Reedley car company, Burnley. Don’t touch the car or dealer with a barge pole.
