I've recently had all pads changed on my 16 reg 2.0 petrol
This has resulted in a rumbling noise from the front, and a clonk when going over manholes (for eg).
I think the pads are rattling around in the callipers but the garage is reluctant to admit responsibility.
Any thoughts regarding a cure?
Thanks.

Is it coming from the front or rear? If rear, I had a similar noise over potholes and it was the rear bump stops which had split allowing the dust cover tube to move and create a noise. If you look up into the wheel arch at the top of the shock you can easily tell.

If it's the front, possibly caliper carrier not tightened properly and banging. Once had this after a brake job had been bodged.

Hi Percy, thanks for the reply.
It's the front.
Can you tell me how the pads are kept in the proper position in the callipers so they don't rattle but don't wear?

I guess they basically float on the discs and are held in place by the piston and caliper carrier. Pretty hard to fit pads wrongly but there is always a first time for everything.
